Modus Operandi
Fraudsters impersonate officials from central agencies such as the CBI, ED, Income Tax, or customs, making video calls from lookalike police stations. They claim victims are under investigation for narcotics or smuggling offences, convincing them to reveal their banking details or make digital payments.

The government has established helplines and deactivated over 700 social-media accounts and groups used by fraudsters. Public awareness campaigns are being conducted in schools, colleges, and on social media platforms to combat these scams.
