The Madhya Pradesh Police are making a significant shift towards digital investigation methods by purchasing 25,000 tablets for their officials. This initiative is in response to new laws that came into effect on July 1, 2023, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Sanhita (BSS). These laws mandate that certain procedures, such as recording statements and securing evidence, be conducted digitally.
Here’s a breakdown of the key points:

- Tablet Distribution: The tablets will be distributed across the state’s 1,150 police stations, with each station receiving an average of 21 tablets.
- Digital Procedures: Under the new laws, investigation officials are required to record statements of victims, accused, and witnesses using digital devices. Other evidence will be secured in the form of geo-tagged photographs.
- Integration with CCTNS: The tablets will be connected to the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS), allowing for better coordination and information sharing across districts and states.
- Improved Case Management: The tablets will also facilitate the handover of cases when investigation officers are transferred, ensuring continuity and efficiency in ongoing investigations.
- Budget and Implementation: The Centre had asked the state government to purchase tablets and other gadgets for investigation, but budget constraints were a concern. The purchase process has now started, and the tablets will soon be distributed to investigation officers.
This move is expected to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of police investigations in Madhya Pradesh by leveraging digital technology
