This fraudulent scheme involves a counterfeit application named “PM Kisan Yojana,” which entices users by falsely promising access to various government benefits. The scammers behind this operation are adept at exploiting the trust that individuals place in government initiatives, making their approach particularly insidious.

Once a victim downloads the deceptive app, it requests access to SMS and device permissions, which enables the scammers to siphon off sensitive information and carry out unauthorized transactions.

The application is designed to collect personal data, including Aadhaar numbers, PAN details, and birth dates, through a fraudulent web form. Armed with this information, the scammers can register devices on UPI platforms and manipulate applications to transfer funds without the victim’s consent.

Reports of unauthorized transactions have surged, particularly on platforms like PhonePe, highlighting the urgent need for users to remain vigilant.

To safeguard against such threats, individuals should only download apps from reputable sources, scrutinize permission requests, be cautious of schemes that promise quick financial gains, regularly monitor their bank and UPI accounts, and report any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities immediately.
