The scammer, masquerading as an American engineer, concocted an elaborate tale about requiring funds to resolve legal complications. To add credibility to his ruse, the victim was bombarded with phone calls from individuals impersonating officials from prominent financial institutions such as the Reserve Bank of India, the National Payments Corporation of India, and the International Monetary Fund, among others.
In response to this alarming incident, the Cyber Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) and are actively pursuing the investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
