A priest hailing from Maharashtra and currently living in Nallakunta, Hyderabad, fell victim to cyber fraud, resulting in a loss exceeding ₹1 lakh. The unfortunate series of events commenced when he inadvertently transferred ₹33,000 to an incorrect UPI number.

In his efforts to retrieve the lost funds, he sought the customer care number for the UPI service via a Google search, which led him to a fraudulent contact.

Following the guidance provided by the scammers, he ended up transferring a total of ₹1.30 lakh to them. Upon realizing the deception, he promptly lodged a complaint with the Cybercrime police. Investigations revealed that the accounts linked to the fraudsters were traced back to Bihar and Maharashtra, raising suspicions that these were mule accounts.

A Cybercrime official has since urged individuals to ensure they reach out to customer care through verified UPI platforms or official websites to safeguard against such fraudulent activities.
