The University Grants Commission (UGC) of India has recently revised its roster of 21 fraudulent universities that are operating throughout the country. These institutions, which are spread across seven states—Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, West Bengal, and the Union Territory of Delhi—do not possess the necessary accreditation or authority to issue legitimate degrees.

As a result, any degrees obtained from these universities will not be recognized for further education or employment opportunities. Enrolling in a fake university can have dire repercussions, including disqualification from jobs that require a valid college degree and obstacles in pursuing advanced studies.

The UGC plays a crucial role as the regulatory body that funds higher education institutions and ensures they meet established academic standards. Notably, Delhi has the highest concentration of these fraudulent institutions, with a total of eight identified.
