Unveiling Meta’s new data policy: Your Facebook and Instagram data fueling AI innovation

By Adv Shoeb Hakim11 Jun 20241 min read

Meta has introduced a fresh data policy that involves utilizing user data from Facebook and Instagram for training AI systems.

The company justifies this action by citing “legitimate interests” under GDPR, allowing them to process data without requiring explicit consent, which has sparked concerns regarding user privacy.

Users are provided with an opt-out option to object to the use of their data by completing a form on Instagram’s website, although Meta reserves the right to still utilize the data in certain situations.

Some users have raised objections regarding the transparency of AI training and have proposed alternative methods of data collection, such as using anonymized data, to address these concerns.
