About the Firm & The Opportunity
We are a highly specialized law firm at the intersection of Intellectual Property, Technology, and Litigation. We are seeking an exceptional AI & IP Lawyer to advise innovative clients—from global tech firms to research institutions—on the novel legal challenges posed by Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and complex data licensing.
This role offers a chance to work on groundbreaking cases that will effectively set precedents and define the boundaries of IP law in India and globally.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Essential Qualifications
- Educational Background: LL.B. (required). An LL.M. in Intellectual Property Law or Technology Law is highly desirable.
- Bar Admission: Must be a practicing advocate admitted to the Bar Council of India.
- Total Legal Experience (PQE): A minimum of 5 to 8 years of post-qualification experience, with a significant portion dedicated to Patent, Copyright, and Technology Licensing.
- Core IP Expertise: Deep, practical experience advising on and litigating matters related to Copyright infringement, Patentability (especially of software/business methods), and trade secrets protection under Indian law.
- AI Literacy: A strong conceptual understanding of AI/ML models, training data issues, generative AI, and the legal implications of AI-generated content.
Preferred Skills & Attributes
- Technical Background: A Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science) or a Patent Agent certification is a major asset.
- Transactional Experience: Proven track record in drafting and negotiating complex technology licensing agreements, data-sharing agreements, and R&D collaboration contracts.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with the intersection of AI with Data Privacy (DPDPA) and regulatory sandboxes for emerging technologies.
- Global IP: Knowledge of international IP treaties, WIPO recommendations, and comparative approaches to AI IP (e.g., US/EU frameworks).
Key Responsibilities
- AI IP Strategy: Develop and advise clients on IP protection strategies for AI algorithms, training data, model outputs, and proprietary technology (e.g., patenting AI inventions).
- Licensing & Transactions: Draft, review, and negotiate complex data and technology agreements, ensuring compliance and maximizing IP protection.
- Litigation Support: Provide expert legal analysis for infringement disputes involving software, AI-generated works, and trade secret misappropriation.
- Advisory: Advise clients on the legal ownership and authorship of AI-created content (e.g., copyright issues).
- Thought Leadership: Prepare internal training materials and client alerts on evolving AI regulations and court rulings.
