About the Firm & The Opportunity
We are a highly specialized, future-focused law firm recognized for innovation in complex Financial Crime, Cyber Litigation, and Regulatory Compliance. We are seeking a Chief Innovation Officer (CINO)—a visionary executive leader—to drive our firm’s long-term technology and strategic direction.
This is a high-impact role with the autonomy and budget authority to identify, evaluate, and implement cutting-edge legal technology (Legal Tech), operational methodologies, and data-driven strategies. You will be instrumental in ensuring the firm remains at the cutting edge of service delivery and operational excellence.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Essential Qualifications
- Educational Background: Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), Information Technology, or a related field. A background that includes both technology and law (e.g., JD/LL.B. and MBA/Masters in IT) is highly preferred.
- Executive Experience: A minimum of 12 to 20 years of progressive senior-level experience, with at least 5 years in a C-level or Director-level strategic role (e.g., CIO, COO, or Head of Innovation) within a large law firm, consulting firm, or financial institution.
- Strategic Vision: Proven track record of developing and executing a multi-year technology strategy that directly contributed to organizational growth, efficiency, and competitive differentiation.
- Legal Tech Expertise: Deep, practical knowledge of the legal technology ecosystem, including AI, automation (RPA), data analytics, cloud infrastructure, and advanced knowledge management systems.
- Financial & P&L Acumen: Demonstrated expertise in managing large departmental budgets, evaluating the return on investment (ROI) of technology projects, and driving firm profitability through operational efficiency.
Preferred Skills & Attributes
- Change Leadership: Exceptional ability to lead complex, firm-wide cultural and technological change, fostering adoption across all levels, from Partners to support staff.
- Data Governance: Expertise in data strategy, legal risk management related to technology, and compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., DPDPA).
- Industry Network: Established network within the Legal Tech vendor community and among peer innovation leaders in the professional services sector.
- Presentation & Communication: Superior ability to articulate complex technology concepts and their strategic implications to a non-technical Partnership group.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Define the firm’s overall technology roadmap, innovation portfolio, and digital transformation initiatives in close consultation with the Partners.
- Technology Implementation: Lead the evaluation, procurement, and deployment of all major Legal Tech solutions, from core practice management systems to advanced AI/ML tools.
- Operational Excellence: Oversee the optimization of all critical internal workflows (e.g., billing, knowledge sharing, client intake) to ensure maximum efficiency and quality control.
- Risk & Security: Ensure the firm’s technology infrastructure and practices meet the highest standards of cybersecurity and regulatory compliance.
- Talent Development: Mentor and lead the Legal Tech, IT, and data teams, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
