We seek a seasoned Legal Data Scientist/Analyst to join our team. This role is crucial for applying predictive analytics to case outcomes, optimizing resource allocation, and transforming our internal operations through data-driven insights.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Essential Qualifications
- Educational Background: Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a quantitative field. A strong understanding of the legal domain is required.
- Work Experience: A minimum of 4 to 7 years of dedicated experience in a Data Analyst or Data Scientist role, with at least 2 years working specifically with legal data, business intelligence (BI), or operational data within a professional services environment.
- Technical Proficiency: Expert proficiency in:
- Programming: Python (with Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn) or R for statistical analysis.
- Databases: SQL and experience working with large, structured, and unstructured datasets.
- Visualization: Advanced skills in BI tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Google Data Studio for creating dashboards and reports.
- Analytical Skills: Proven experience developing, validating, and deploying predictive models (e.g., machine learning, regression analysis) to forecast outcomes or identify trends.
Preferred Skills & Attributes
- Legal Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with legal metrics (e.g., billing realization, matter volume, cycle time) and legal data sources (e.g., case management systems, billing systems, public court data).
- NLP/Text Mining: Experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques to extract insights from legal text (e.g., judgments, contracts, pleadings).
- Strategic Communication: Exceptional ability to translate complex technical findings and data narratives into clear, actionable business strategies for non-technical senior management and Partners.
- Problem-Solving: Strong initiative and ability to identify data sources and design analytical solutions for ambiguous legal problems.
Key Responsibilities
- Predictive Modeling: Develop and maintain statistical models to provide predictive analytics on case outcomes, litigation duration, and client risk profiles to inform Partners’ strategic decisions.
- Operational Optimization: Analyze internal operational data (e.g., time entry, resource allocation, billing cycles) to recommend and implement data-driven process improvements that enhance firm efficiency and profitability.
- Dashboard & Reporting: Design, build, and maintain interactive BI dashboards that provide real-time performance monitoring and key operational insights for firm management.
- Data Strategy: Work with the IT and administrative teams to structure and cleanse internal and external data sources for analytical readiness.
- Ad-hoc Analysis: Conduct deep-dive analysis on specific client or market trends as required by the legal teams.
